When Sue Tapia of White Sands Realty Group first spotted this quaint little house in Florida’s charming coastal community of Sarasota back in 2018, the retro residence immediately captured her attention.

She went on to dole out $229,000 for the midcentury modern-style structure, and then spent $50,000 more to extensively remodel the premises from head to toe with period-appropriate furnishings and décor. Now the place has popped up on the market again, this time with a nearly $900,000 ask, and has already received a boatload of publicity courtesy of Zillow Gone Wild.

“It needed some work, but I saw beyond that,” Tapia related to Sarasota magazine in a recent article. Inspired by the similar-shaped yet larger Hilton Leech Art Studio nearby dubbed “The Round House,” she set about to add her own bespoke touches to the smaller circular home — think a tangerine-hued front door with knock-out windows, vintage turquoise appliances in the kitschy-chic kitchen and a glistening tiled bath adorned with a sunken tub/shower combo, just to name a few.

Originally constructed by electrician Frank Williams back in 1971, and tucked away on a corner lot spanning more than a quarter of an acre (that Tapia paid an additional $20,000 to clear of overgrown pines), the house is fronted by an oversized covered carport and Maltese-patterned breeze block privacy wall.

Inside, two bedrooms and a single bath are packed into a little more than 1,200 square feet of throwback living space boasting white epoxy-covered concrete floors and LED lighting throughout.

Among the highlights: a living/dining room area flanked by the aforementioned bath, which sits square in the middle of the home and also includes the original kidney-shaped vanity. Then there’s the eye-catching blue and white kitchen, complete with laminate cabinetry, an eat-in peninsula topped with a refinished countertop, a double cast-iron sink and even a washer/dryer.

Elsewhere are a guest bedroom and spacious master suite that was converted from two bedrooms by removing a wall that could easily be reinstalled; and outdoors, the newly landscaped grounds offer plenty of space for a guesthouse, pool or detached garage, per the listing.

Note: The seller is entertaining all-cash offers only, and all of the furnishings can also be negotiated separately.
