Pirelli GT4 America practice sessions have now been completed. This morning in Practice 1, the #18 RS1 Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS Clubsport of Eric Filgueiras and Stevan McAleer was quickest in dry conditions.

Filgueiras and McAleer started 2022 on a five-race win streak, and determined to get back on the victory train, McAleer leapt to the top of the time sheets mid-way through the session, setting a best lap time of 1’55.371 which wouldn’t be surpassed thanks in part to a lengthy red flag.

A car dropped oil on the track from turns five through nine, and the ensuing cleanup would consume over 20 minutes worth of time on the clock.

The session restarted with three minutes placed back on the clock, enough time for teams to get one more lap. For some drivers, it wasn’t nearly enough time on track.

McAleer’s time stood as the best, while the #69 Smooge Racing Toyota GR Supra GT4 of Todd Coleman and Aaron Telitz finished second overall and led the Pro-Am category. IMSA GTD star Telitz set a 1’55.457 as he returns to the series this weekend.

The #8 Flying Lizard Motorsports Aston Martin Vantage AMR GT4 (Elias Sabo/Andy Lee) ranked third, followed by the #52 Auto Technic Racing BMW M4 GT4 (Tom Capizzi/John Capestro-Dubets) in fourth, and the #39 Cameron Racing Mercedes-AMG GT4 (Chris Cagnazzi/Guy Cosmo) in fifth.

Filling out the rest of the top ten were the #124 ARG/Rotek Racing Ford Mustang GT4 (Edgar Lau/Billy Johnson Jnr), the #15 BSport Racing Vantage GT4 (Bryan Putt/Kenton Koch), the #47 NOLASPORT Cayman RS (Scott Noble/Jason Hart), then the #34 Conquest Racing/JMF Motorsport AMG GT4 (Gavin Sanders/Michai Stephens) and the #2 GMG Racing Vantage GT4 (Jason Bell/Andrew Davis).

The Am Cup category was led by the #36 BimmerWorld M4 GT4 (Charlie Postins/James Clay), who ranked 14th overall out of 34 cars.

But wait! There’s more!!

To accompany the green flag for Practice 2️⃣ we have a double rainbow at @WGI 🌈

Practice 2 started ten minutes behind schedule on a wet track, but one that was beginning to dry quickly due to the sun and the cars circulating on track moving the water with their rain tyres.

Despite reports of standing water on track, there were no major incidents in this portion of the session, or throughout the rest of the 45 minutes to follow.

The track dried out quickly and by mid-way, most teams were on dry tyres.

A flurry of fast times over the final minutes ended with the #52 AutoTechnic M4 GT4 of Capestro-Dubets on top, with a time of 1’55.917.

Following him was a pair of Toyotas, the #68 Smooge Racing GR Supra (Kevin Conway/John Geesbreght) in second overall (first in Silver Cup), and the #112 Dexter Racing GR Supra (Dominic Starkweather/Ryan Dexter) in third.

Fourth was the #15 BSport Vantage GT4, then the #51 AutoTechnic M4 GT4 (Austen Smith/Zac Anderson) in fifth, and the #34 Conquest/JMF AMG GT4 in sixth.

The #50 Chouest Povoledo Racing Vantage GT4 (Ross Chouest/Aaron Povoledo) was seventh, followed by the #8 Flying Lizard Vantage GT4 in eighth, the #39 Cameron Racing AMG GT4 in ninth, and then the Am Cup leading #20 Carrus Callas Raceteam GR Supra (Nick Shanny/Terry Borcheller) in tenth.
