There may be snow showers on the Wisconsin and Milwaukee subways on Friday, and it may be violent at times

On Friday, a severe storm system will bring snow showers to most parts of Wisconsin—some of which are sometimes moderate to heavy rain—including the Milwaukee metropolitan area.

Andy Boxell, a meteorologist with the Sullivan National Weather Service, said forecasters are increasingly convinced that there will be intermittent snow showers throughout the day on Friday.

"It will be one of the sunny and windy days, and then suddenly visibility reaches half a mile, the real heavy snow shower lasts for 5, 10 or 15 minutes, and then returns to a quiet state until the next pass," Boxell said.

"This will be one of the situations that won't last long at any given point, but... when one of the showers does come, it can be very intense," Boxell added.

Snow showers may be enough to cause travel problems.

"The weather won’t be cold enough to stick everything for a long time, but if you’re traveling... you may suddenly find yourself in a very strong snow field, and it may be strong enough to make the road a little bit stronger. Sliding for a short period of time.

"Sometimes this can be more dangerous than a big snowstorm," Boxell said. "This is definitely something that people need to pay attention to."

In April, a snowstorm reduced visibility to almost zero and caused 100 car collisions on Interstate 41 in Washington County. In a series of crashes on interstate highways, one person was killed and dozens of others were injured.

Boxell said he expects snow showers across the state on Friday.

"This is really our first influential winter weather this season," he said.

The storm that brought cold weather to Wisconsin prompted high wind warnings in the waters of Lake Michigan and Green Bay. Storm warnings have been issued for most of Lake Superior.

"This is a typical autumn storm system, with strong winds blowing on the lake," Boxell said.

The storm also caused blizzards in parts of Dakota and brought snow to western and central Minnesota.

Boxell said that once the storm ends sometime over the weekend, another weather system will follow in Wisconsin on Sunday.

Forecasters are still working to determine the exact location that the system will track on Sunday.

Boxell said: "It's very likely to have a lot of light snow. It's just a matter of where it snows on Sunday." "Considering the temperature, I think there will be another light snowfall somewhere in Wisconsin on Sunday.

Boxell added: "It's not a big deal, but of course, if you travel anywhere in the state this weekend, there may be some cold weather."
