Feel free to leave the jacket at home, but don't forget your sunglasses as you head out the door Tuesday. We have a decent cooling trend and stronger winds ahead in your mid week forecast, but temperatures will rebound to end your work week. Another modest cooling trend arrives this weekend, but we'll be staying dry through your extended forecast.

No need for a jacket this morning, but you'll still want to make sure you have your sunglasses before you head out the door Tuesday. High pressure to our east and off the coast of southern California will keep our region dry, but low pressure approaching the Pacific Northwest from the eastern Pacific will keep our high temperatures in check, bring slightly stronger south winds and bring some thin clouds over northern California Tuesday. We're starting out with clear skies and somewhat similar low temperatures to Monday early Tuesday, but will end up mostly sunny with a modest drop in our high temperatures in the afternoon. Temperatures have dipped into the 60's overnight in the valley and foothills, while our mountain zones are starting out in the 40's to lower 50's again this morning. Winds are out of the east to 10mph, and will end up out of the southeast to 10mph this afternoon. Gusts up to 20mph will be possible in the valley, and gusts up to 35mph will be possible in some mountain areas closest to the Oregon and Nevada borders. A Red Flag Warning for elevated fire danger will go into effect in areas of Modoc and Siskiyou Counties from 2pm through 8pm Tuesday due to gusty southwest winds and dry conditions. Fire danger will mostly stay in the moderate range with the exception of those areas where winds are stronger. Our biggest fire danger concerns will be in Siskiyou, Modoc, and Lassen Counties from this afternoon through this evening. Dry conditions will still drive easy fire starts, so it's important to stay cautious despite our mostly moderate fire danger today. High temperatures are projected to end up several degrees cooler than Monday, with valley areas topping out in the mid 80's to lower 90's. Foothill and mountain areas will mostly range from the mid 70's to mid 80's Tuesday afternoon.

Low pressure will track into the Pacific Northwest on Wednesday, and that will leave northern California with cooler temperatures, breezier southwest winds, and more thin clouds brushing across our region for the middle of your work week. High pressure to our east will continue to leave us with dry conditions and keep shower chances to our north through the middle of this week. Winds will get stronger Wednesday, and it looks likely that another Red Flag Warning for elevated fire danger may be issued for some of our mountain zones closest to the Oregon and Nevada borders. There is currently no warning set for these aresa on Wednesday, but it does seem like it's only a matter of time before one is issued. Temperatures will start out a couple of degrees cooler and end up a few degrees cooler in the afternoon on Wednesday. Valley areas will start out in the 50's to mid 60's and top out in the mid to upper 80's on Wednesday, while foothill areas start out in the 50's to mid 60's and top out in the 70's. Our mountain zones will start out in the 40's and top out in the 70's to around 80 degrees on Wednesday. Winds will be out of the south to 10mph with gusts to around 20mph in the valley on Wednesday, while gusts up to around 35mph out of the southwest will be possible in our higher elevations Wednesday afternoon and evening. That area of low pressure to our north will track east Thursday into Friday, and high pressure will rebuild across northern California late this work week. That will drive our high temperatures back up into the low to mid 90's in the valley, while foothill and mountain areas top out in the mid 70's to upper 80's Friday afternoon. We'll also have sunny skies and modest north winds to end your work week.

Another cool system will track towards the West Coast from the eastern Pacific this weekend, and that will drive a modest cooling trend starting Saturday and persisting through the middle of next week. Valley areas will start out in the upper 50's to lower 60's and top out in the mid 80's to lower 90's through your weekend. Foothill areas will start out in the 50's to 60's and top out in the 70's to lower 80's through this weekend, while our mountain zones will start out in the 30's to 40's and end up in the 70's to mid 80's. We'll stay sunny and dry through the start of next week, but temperatures will continue to trend down through the middle of next week. Most models are keeping northern California sunny and dry in your long range forecast.
