Eyebrow lamination is all the rage at the moment. The gentle treatment can help fake fuller-looking brows for months at a time and it's fast becoming a favoured beauty solution for women. Benefit's national brow and beauty authority, Samantha Tonkin lays down everything you should know before booking your appointment.

The eyebrows of most women will go through about as many trend eras as the hair on our head. Whether it’s the thin arched look of the 90s, the over-plucked, barely-there look of the 00s, or the bleached style of the past few years, it’s fair to say our brows have been through a lot.

And it's also likely that perhaps they've become sparse over time. And that's where eyebrow lamination enters the scene. Eyebrow lamination is a subtle beauty tweak that brings back a full, fluffy look to your brows. The non-invasive treatment involves lifting and sealing your hairs in a brushed up uniform to present a natural, full look.

We spoke to Benefit’s national brow and beauty authority, Samantha Tonkin to find out exactly what we need to know about brow lamination to flaunt the perfect brows, all summer long.

While no preparation of the brows is needed prior to brow lamination, however, there should be at least 6-8 weeks between lamination services to ensure we are maintaining the brow hair health.

For 24 hours post service, water is not your brow bestie. Wetting the brows will reverse the lamination so we recommend coming fresh-faced (if possible) or making sure it’s not hair washing night (I made this mistake on my first lamination) to minimise the risk of getting your brows wet at the end of the day!

You can expect to see results for up to 8 weeks. The hairs can be moved and set in different directions making a multitude of brow styles possible. A completely customisable brow experience!

At Benefit, our brow experts will analyse your brow hair and customise the length of treatment time based on your hair health and thickness.

We finish all lamination services with a hydrating gel to rehydrate the hair and we highly recommend applying oils to the brows daily (or even an in-shower hair mask doesn’t hurt).

Not all brows and hair types are suitable for lamination.

At Benefit, we always perform a brow health check to ensure that your brow hairs will withstand the treatment and leave them looking amazing.

Lamination is designed to create additional thickness and height to the brows so if you have quite wide brows as is or quite long brow hairs then brow lamination may be too much… and that’s okay!

In addition, if you have sparse brows or bald spots throughout you may notice these more post-lamination services (depending on where they are). A fine-tip brow pencil like Benefit Precisely, My Brow Pencil can help fake the appearance of hair and is perfect to add in after your brows have been set in place with your Benefit Gimme Brow Gel for the day.

For the most natural result, the brow hairs shouldn’t be vertical the entire way along. The idea is to start at the front of the brow at a 90-degree angle and then slowly decrease the angle as you progress along.

It is important to expect movement from your brow hairs after a lamination treatment. For example, when you wake up, they will look messy and out of place.

Giving your brows a brush with a spoolie and then setting them with a clear brow gel like the Benefit 24-hour brow setter will ensure they stay exactly how you wish.
