The Glasgow landlady installed a 20 pence "pay-per-view" shower meter in the apartment refused a permit

A landlord installed a pay-per-view shower meter on her Glasgow property, but her license was denied.

Elinor Johnstone connects the device to the shower in her apartment on the south side of the city.

The device accepts 20 pence coins and can provide tenants with 20 minutes of shower time.

The pay-per-use device was installed in Ms. John Stone's property on Cartvale Road in the Langside area of the city.

According to STV News, parliamentarians expressed concern about the shower meter, and an inspection by the Glasgow City Council found seven problems with the property.

Most of the problems have been corrected, but Ms. Johnstone is applying for a house with more than three years of occupational permit for her tenement, but was rejected.

The parliamentarians questioned the landlady because her husband Jim told the Licensing and Regulatory Commission that they would empty their meters from Inverness to Glasgow every few months.

SNP Congressman Rhiannon Spear criticized the practice of the meter and said that when she heard the news, she could not "trust her ears."

MP Spear added: "It is an absolute privilege to rent a house from anyone in Glasgow. I am not sure if you understand and are consistent with responsibilities."

Committee Chairman Alex Wilson said: "Did you just empty the coin and walk away?"

Mr. Johnstone told lawmakers that the coronavirus restrictions prevented him and his wife from taking care of the apartment.

Mr. Johnstone said: "We raised our hands. We made a mistake this time. Things will get better. We are happy to admit this."

He told lawmakers that in the future, a rental company would be hired to manage the property.
