Good early Friday afternoon, everyone. Looking at our weather setup, the upper-levels haven’t changed very much since the last update. We still find ourselves on the warmer side of the jet stream. However, there’s no well-defined center to this upper-level setup… yet.

At the surface, we actually have our next cold front knocking on the door from the northwest. While it kept any rain and t-storms chances across northern Kansas last night and early this morning, it may have a trick up its sleeve for us later this afternoon.

With the front continuing to pull in more humidity from the south, it will try to spark a few afternoon showers or t-storms. While nothing too strong or severe is expected, it could give a few spots a little reprieve from the heat if they can produce some good downpours. Otherwise, the humidity will make our highs around 96° feel like the lower triple digits this afternoon under partly sunny skies.

While we’ll have a mainly quiet evening with lows eventually dropping back into the lower 70s, the front will park itself on top of the region as we go into Saturday and Sunday. Not only will that bring some scattered t-storm chances for some by sunrise Saturday, it’ll keep some scattered t-storms under otherwise mostly cloudy skies in the forecast. Still, it won’t scrub out the heat as highs will push into the lower to middle 90s. With the humidity, temperatures will feel like about 100° during the afternoon.

After we repeat Saturday’s weather for Sunday, look at what happens on the 4th of July at the jet stream level. The building upper-level ridge will force the front back to our north. This setup will keep us mainly dry with just a slight chance for a random shower or t-storm. Otherwise, this will push highs back into the upper 90s on the 4th.

The jet stream setup you see below is how we’ll look for Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday of next week. With this strong upper-level ridge, highs will start pushing between 100° and 103° with heat indices pushing close to 110° on some of those days.

If you’re curious about how we look for the rest of July and for much of August, Doug has your updated long range forecast down below.

Next Friday & Saturday: Staying hot with slight t-storm chances around.

July 10th-July 16th: Hot for much of the week before we drop back into warm territory on Friday and Saturday. Slight t-storm chances Tuesday through Thursday. We’ll hold on to slight rain chances for Friday and Saturday as we watch for a tropical system to bring some Gulf moisture our way.

July 17th-July 23rd: Mainly a hot week (with the exception of a warm Sunday and Friday). Slight t-storm chances Sunday, Wednesday and Thursday.

July 24th-July 30th: Mainly a hot week. While we’ll have slight t-storm chances for Monday, we’ll keep an eye on the Gulf that could bring some moisture our way on Friday.

July 31st-August 6th: Another hot week lined up. Slight t-storm chances Monday through Saturday.

August 7th-August 13th: Aside from a hot Sunday and Saturday, mainly warm this week. We’ll watch for slight t-storm chances on Sunday and Thursday.

August 14th-August 20th: Hot for much of the week before we head into a warm Saturday. We’ll watch for slight t-storm chances Wednesday through Saturday.
