Turn the stone into gold: rich metal and decoration turn a stable home into a performer-The Georgetowner

After 19 frustrating months, we all hope to see a golden world. The residence at 3420 N St. NW, presented in gorgeous tones of metal, marble, glass and lighting, provides such a vision. It is both amazing and unique.

This 2,150-square-foot residence was built in 1900 and was completely renovated by BOWA's builders from the end of 2018 to last summer. Every inch of the main residence and carriage house has been reimagined, and the decorative details are surprising and pleasant-from rococo-style plaster works (Greg Giannetti) to sculptural lamps, and cleverly inlaid Versailles pattern French oak floors with brass . Although the overall look and feel is a celebration of the past gilded era, the open flow and stylish design are fully in line with today's modern aesthetic.

The visual drama starts from the front door, which leads to a bright white foyer. The foyer is a white-painted exposed brick wall facing the living room and dining room. The built-in sofa bed has a courtyard in the deep front bay window, with elaborate shapes and medals. Elegant walls and high ceilings.

All this takes you into the kitchen jewelry box, which has hammered brass cabinets (soft opening), marble countertops and sinks (Calacatta Sponda), and golden marble backsplashes (Mosaique). Appliances (some integrated) include a sub-zero refrigerator/freezer, Bosch dishwasher, Electrolux microwave, and ILVE Majestic oven/stove with a central grill and custom-designed marble hood. Although it is shining, it is very peaceful. Perhaps it is because it looks out and leads to a courtyard shaded by pergola and wisteria trees, with rosestone leather floors, bubbling fountains and rose gardens. Ideal place to enjoy morning coffee or evening aperitif.

A few steps up from the courtyard is the ultimate WFH space (or third bedroom): an airy carriage house with skylights, a beamed and lattice vaulted ceiling, and an accordion glass wall (NanaWall) that opens out. The ensuite bathroom has a skylight, a frameless glass shower (Ann Sacks) with blue-gray tiles, an interesting bubble-shaped ceiling light and a Calacatta marble vanity table. Behind the carriage house, accessible from the back door, is a parking lot for two cars.

Back to the main house there are two bedrooms. The master suite occupies the entire second floor. At one end is a complete dressing room with golden hardware (Sherle Wagner), antique mirrors with golden spots, and closets with built-in storage compartments. On the other side is a spacious bedroom decorated with plaster walls and ceiling decorations (similar to the living room and dining room below), crystal feather chandelier and-surprise! — A polished nickel double slipper bathtub (handmade by The Bath Works) nestled shyly in the bay window. The luxurious master bathroom features skylights, heated floors, Calacatta top double vanity with golden stepped glass sinks (Linkasinks) and Kallista hardware, and glass showers lined with bold blush/Ebony tiles (Mosaique). Between these two rooms is a powder room and a separate closet with an LG washing machine and dryer.

On the lower floor, in order to create a higher ceiling, there is an elegant and spacious suite with a storage bedroom and marble bathroom.

The renovation project is both smart and beautiful, and includes a new roof, HVAC, security system with ring-shaped video doorbell, and application-controlled Lutron lighting system.
