Be prepared for dangerous heat on the way in your Wednesday forecast. You're going to want to dress in light and loose fitting clothing, grab your sunglasses, and pack some extra water before you head out the door Wednesday morning. Low pressure to our east is moving further away from northern California Wednesday, and that will bring an end to our gusty north winds by mid day. High pressure building inland from the Pacific will drive our hotter temperatures and keep us very dry today. Fire danger is still elevated early today as north winds are staying breezy, but those winds will subside and shift mid day. The Red Flag Warning for high fire danger is still in effect in the valley and foothills through 11am Wednesday. A Heat Advisory is set to stay in effect in the valley and foothills through 11pm Wednesday as temperatures end up dangerously hot in the afternoon. Record breaking high temperatures will be possible in many parts of northern California today, and you're advised to avoid outdoor activities and being in direct sunlight in the afternoon. We have clear skies overhead for the start of your Wednesday, but thin clouds moving inland will leave us mostly sunny to partly cloudy later today. Temperatures are starting out in the 60's to 70's in the valley and foothills, while mountain areas have dipped into the 40's to 50's overnight. Winds are out of the north to 20mph and gusts up to 30mph early today, but we'll have a shift to south winds to around 15mph this afternoon for most of our region. High temperatures are projected to climb into the 100 to 105 degree range in the valley, while foothill areas range from the mid 80's to mid 90's, and mountain areas range from the lower 80's to mid 90's Wednesday afternoon.

High pressure centered over northern California on Wednesday will shift east on Thursday, and low pressure will track into the Pacific Northwest. The wet system tracking inland to our north late week will bring more clouds and cooling temperatures to northern California from Thursday through your Memorial Day Weekend. Current projections have valley areas dropping back into the upper 80's to lower 90's on Thursday, while foothill and mountain areas range from the 70's to mid 80's Thursday afternoon. We'll have partly cloudy skies overhead, but we'll be staying mostly dry on Thursday. The only chance for showers or potential for thunderstorms will be in areas just south of the Oregon border Thursday afternoon. Temperatures will start out around 5 degrees cooler, and end up 1 to 2 degrees cooler for your afternoon on Friday. The wet system tracking through to our north will bring additional cooling and even a chance for light showers to northern California on Saturday. Current projections have valley areas starting out in the upper 50's to lower 60's and topping out in the low to mid 80's on Saturday. Foothill and mountain areas will mostly top out in the 60's to mid 70's on Saturday. We'll have partly cloudy skies and very light showers will be possible across our region. The latest projections bring about a 10th of an inch of rain to our areas from Shasta County to the north, with amounts diminishing to the south on Saturday. Mostly sunny skies and even cooler temperatures are expected on Sunday. We'll also have a slight chance for some showers sagging south into our region, but confidence is lower on shower chances for the latter half of your weekend. Temperatures will start out in the mid 50's in the valley and will top out in the mid to upper 70's Sunday afternoon. Foothill and mountain areas will top out in the 60's to lower 70's on Sunday.

High pressure will begin to build back into northern California on Memorial Day, and that will result in warming temperatures and sunny skies over northern California. Current projections have valley areas in the low to mid 80's Monday afternoon, while foothill and mountain areas range from the 60's to mid 70's. Temperatures will then continue to climb into the mid to upper 80's in the valley on Tuesday, with 90's expected for the middle of next week. We'll stay dry and sunny to mostly sunny through next week's forecast.
